Cal State university Long Beach is very much reflective of California itself. Very diverse with people coming from all over the world. Even if you don't know many people is isn't difficult to find a niche. Being a largely commuter school keeps people from know too many people outside of their departments which is a drag, but it doesn't keep anyone from making friends. The campus is set near the ocean offering a beautifully landscaped, garden-like setting. This is handy if the students need something to do in their downtime which for many students is much needed.

California State University, Long Beach is an urban, comprehensive university which enrolls more than 4,000 new freshmen each fall semester.
CSULB's core academic purpose is to graduate students with highly valued degrees. Evidence shows that over their lifetimes college graduates earn about $1 million more than high school graduates.
Graduation rates for CSULB students have increased dramatically over the past seven years and the length of time it takes students to complete degrees has decreased. The key improvements that the campus made to improve graduation rates were to ensure the availability of needed classes and to provide much richer support for entering freshmen in the form of advising and learning communities. These improvements were key reasons why CSULB was named one of "America's Best Colleges and Universities" by U.S. News and World Report.
The Prudent Student (October 11, 2009)
California State University, Long Beach continues to be the University of Choice for a talented and diverse group of California's best and brightest students. CSULB receives more first-time freshmen applications than can be accommodated. To maintain the academic quality of CSULB academic programs and services, supplemental admissions criteria, based on a higher CSU eligibility index, will be applied to first-time freshman applicants.
